For more than two decades, East Islip High School students have gained invaluable career knowledge by participating in the Mentor Me program, coordinated by the East Islip School-Business Partnership. At the annual December Meet My Mentor Breakfast, more than 75 high schoolers interacted with experienced professional mentors from local organizations such as Allstate Insurance, Concepts in Promotion, Donato Law, Lee’s Auto Body, Suffolk County Police Department, Transamerica Financial Advisors, Valley National Bank and Zebra Technologies. During the event, the students practiced elevator pitches and interview questions, and created introductory emails to their mentors, preparing for a full day of “shadowing” the mentor on Jan. 30.

“Through this program, our students are able to see what a day in the life of a professional in their desired career path is like,” said teacher Bridget Lopiccolo, who serves as co-coordinator of the East Islip School-Business Partnership. “With college and career readiness being a focus in today’s world, East Islip’s students are far more prepared for their future thanks to our Partnership members.”
