High school senior Jolie Iamunno was recently recognized with a Student Achievement Award by the Town of Islip Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. This award is presented to selected Town of Islip students in grades 9 through 12 who have made significant contributions to the community or who have excelled in a specific academic area. Iamunno was nominated for this honor by teacher Heather Toomey in the area of fine art.

“It was such a great honor to be nominated by Mrs. Toomey and to be chosen by the Town of Islip for this award,” said Iamunno, who has been accepted into the photography program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she will attend this fall.

“I nominated Jolie for so many reasons,” Toomey said. “She has been my student the past two years, she is a member of the National Art Honor Society and also serves as the eiMAPS liaison. Jolie is vice president of the Photography Club, always volunteers at events and also serves as my student helper. She is someone that I can count on for anything. I am so proud of Jolie's progress and that the town recognizes it. Even though we can’t have the official ceremony this year, Jolie deserves this recognition.”
