Seven high school student-musicians from East Islip were selected by the New York State School Music Association for All-State honors this year.

Junior Kurt Eide (trombone) was chosen for the All-State Jazz Ensemble, senior Sarah Commisso (viola) for the All-State String Orchestra, junior Richard Hughes (trumpet) for the All-State Symphonic Band, junior Kevin Jacobsen (trumpet) for the All-State Symphony Orchestra, senior Jack Burke-McGoldrick  (trombone) and junior Michael Stevens (horn) for the All-State Wind Ensemble, and senior Shannon Ransom (alto) for the All-State Women’s Choir.

The superb young musicians will participate at the NYSSMA Winter Conference’s All-State concerts, held in December at the Eastman Theater in Rochester.

“We are so proud of the hard work and dedication that these students exhibit, along with the support and guidance our teachers provide each student to achieve such impressive accolades,” said Robert J. Wottawa II, the district’s director of art and music.
