Cross-Country Champs Again

The high school’s boys cross-country team defeated rival Hauppauge by a score of 18-40 at Sunken Meadow on Oct. 20, wrapping up their second straight undefeated season and defending their League IV title for the first time since 1978.

Taking an early lead and holding on, the Redmen scored five runners in the top six, lead by senior William Reed, who finished the season undefeated in league competition. Junior Amar Chisti and seniors Brian Allgeier, Troy Donnelly and Caleb Shulman rounded out the scoring as freshman Dylan Lopez and senior Kyle Rucky sealed the victory for East Islip.

At the girls cross-country team’s tri-meet, East Islip finished the season with a 3-3 record, with Amanda Engrassia placing second in the 2.8-mile race in 18:40 to lead East Islip.
