Young patriots at John F. Kennedy and Ruth C. Kinney Elementary Schools honored Veterans Day and veterans from the East Islip community at Nov. 10 celebrations.

Over at RCK, halls were decorated in red, white and blue as students welcomed local veterans to the school’s traditional “Parade of Heroes.”

“What a heartwarming experience!” said RCK Principal Hillary K. Bromberg.

JFK took a performing arts tack, with a concert in the school cafetorium. Jaime DeMaria’s viola students played “Yankee Doodle” and “America the Beautiful,” James Santoro’s chorus students sang “The Brave” and Ronald Fox’s band musicians performed “My Country Tis’ of Thee,” while Gina Fox’s class recited a poem called “The Noble and the Brave: A Veteran's Day Tribute.” Principal Aileen O’Rourke even shared her talents by singing a moving rendition of “God Bless America,” accompanied by Santoro.

“Our students performed with pride and patriotism during this year’s Veterans Day celebration,” said DeMaria. “We were all very proud to honor our veterans on their special day.”
