Four High School Artists Exhibited at College

Four talented Advance Placement students from the high school –Roisin Ashe, Michael Dondero, Destiny Nalls and Veronica VanDerlofske – were recently featured in Suffolk County Community College’s annual High School Art Competition. Their work was exhibited in Gallery West at Suffolk’s Michael J. Grant Campus in Brentwood.

Ashe and Dondero, both juniors, were selected by their AP drawing teacher, Daniel Figliozzi, while seniors Nalls and Vanderlofske were selected by their AP 2D design teacher, Heather Toomey.

“It was an honor to have my work shown and looked at by professionals and other students,” said Nalls.

“I thought the show was a really new and interesting experience,” recalled Dondero. “It was a very helpful, as it made me realize that people use a variety of techniques when creating their art. I appreciate that I was selected to be in it.”

Dondero and VanDerlofske, accompanied by the teachers, attended the opening reception.

“We are excited and proud of our AP art students, and happy to showcase East Islip students with students from across Long Island,” said Figliozzi.
