Connetquot Dancer Zeledon Wins Award

Gifted dancer Kiara Zeledon a second-grader at Connetquot, was a winner of the Suffolk County Reflections Award of Excellence and New York State Reflections Award of Excellence in the primary-level dance choreography category of this year’s PTA Reflections arts contest. Her winning dance, “Girl on Fire,” set to the Alicia Keys song of the same name, earned her the chance to compete as a national-level PTA Reflections finalist.

“Kiara chose to dance to this song because she identifies with the lyrics,” said her mother, Tara. “It tells of someone just starting out, but knowing that someday she could become a great dancer if she tries her best and never gives up.”

According to her mother, she has been dancing since she was 3 years old and continues to dance four or five days per week at a local dance studio, where she also is a member of their award-winning competition team.

“We are so proud of the students who take the extra time to submit an entry for the annual PTA Reflections contest,” said Principal Deborah Smith. “It demonstrates that the children seek out opportunities to learn, grow and share their talents. The entire Connetquot community is proud of Kiara and wish her success with her dancing career and in the national contest.”
