JFK fourth-graders in the classroom of co-teachers Amy Elliott and Sheryl Middleton and paraprofessional Carolynn Cairo took a virtual field trip on March 2 to the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, Florida.

During the students’ Skype session, the class was given a live tour of the hospital and informed about the various turtle species and their illnesses and injuries.

“Our tour guide immersed our students with information and allowed many of them to ask questions live,” said Elliott. “This amazing experience provided an enriching extension to our science curriculum.”

During the remainder of March, the class saved water bottles for recycling by Cairo, with the return funds donated to the hospital for their work in rehabilitating the turtles.
