Leaders Club Visits Vets

The middle school’s eighth-grade Girls Leaders Club made two trips in March to the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook to visit and create holiday crafts with the resident veterans. The club members also had the opportunity to sit and talk with the vets about their service experiences and learn about different branches of the military.

“This is a valuable intergenerational experience and a win-win situation for both the students and the veterans,” said club adviser Diane Wahrenburg. “When I asked my students about the most valuable thing they took away from this visit, the majority said they liked talking to the vets about their wartime experiences and gaining insight into their lives.”
