The principal of Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School, Hillary K. Bromberg, who joined the school and district last September, was recently awarded a doctoral degree in education from St. John’s University in Oakdale.

Dr. Bromberg conducted a qualitative study to investigate the current use of social media in schools and how it changes professional development for teachers and administrators.  She successfully defended her dissertation on March 3.

RCK’s principal previously served as assistant principal for William T. Rogers Middle School and Fort Salonga and Park View elementary schools, all in the Kings Park Central School District. She also taught kindergarten and first grade in the Hicksville School District. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from SUNY Oneonta, a master’s degree in literacy from Hunter College and an administrative degree from Stony Brook University.

“It has been a lifelong goal of mine to receive a doctorate degree,” said Dr. Bromberg. “I look forward to continuing my research and hope to have an impact on increasing the numbers of ‘connected educators’ with the success of students in mind in the 21st century.”
