Six students from East Islip schools were recently nominated for Suffolk Zone Physical Education Leadership Awards by the local chapter of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

NYSAHPERD promotes physically active and healthy lifestyles through school and community programs in health education, physical education, recreation and dance, and its Suffolk Zone awards are given to students who display outstanding leadership skills, character and sportsmanship during physical education class.

The students – East Islip Middle School eighth-graders Emily Maccarone and Micarlys Ramirez, John F. Kennedy Elementary School fifth-graders Joseph Cruz and Olivia Hoffman, and Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School fifth-graders Nicole Palmer and Nicolas Rizzo – were honored at NYSAHPERD’s the 11th annual Suffolk Zone awards ceremony, held on May 4 at Longwood High School.
