Poetry and Pride at Timber Point
Second-graders in Patrice Mercurio’s classroom at Timber Point Elementary School held a poetry reading on November 23. Preparing for Thanksgiving, the entire class shared their thoughts on the theme “What I Am Thankful For,” then individual students took turns reading poems such as “Pumpkin, Pumpkin,” “Chief Seattle’s Lesson” and “The Terrible, Wonderful Day.”
"Sometimes in life, people – especially teachers – can learn a lot from children,” said Mercurio. “I learned that my students may only be in second grade, but they have the ability to write, recite and teach all of us what Thanksgiving is truly about. I couldn't be prouder."
