At the Nov. 3 business meeting, the Board of Education and visiting New York State Sen. Tom Croci recognized the high school’s varsity boys soccer team, captain Adam Raso and coach Raymond Lang for sportsmanship, presenting them with a certificate of appreciation.

At the end of a hotly contested game against Half Hollow Hills West on Sept. 8, a Hills West player cramped in both calves. Despite losing the game 1-0, Raso stayed with the Hills athlete as the whistle sounded, until the trainer could arrive. His unselfish act prompted a congratulatory message to East Islip from Hills West coach Doug Gannon.

The Redmen finished the season 7-7-2.
