For Kelcie Alba, an eighth-grader at the middle school, her educational career has been a chance to explore major opportunities. While in sixth grade, she was nominated by teacher Janice Laube for the Envision Program, traveling to Washington, D.C. that year to represent East Islip for the National Young Leaders Conference, and to Boston last summer.

Alba is currently invited to attend the presidential inauguration in January. Next summer, she will choose between attending STEM programs in a number of states, or a two-week school experience in Japan; she has already begun learning Japanese in preparation for the latter.

“Kelcie willingly embraces unique and challenging opportunities which provide her with educational and personal growth,” said Laube. “I am so proud of her accomplishments. She has a very bright and successful future.”
