Too Many Tubas? Not for Finn

Robert Finn, a seventh-grader at the middle school, participated in the Suffolk County Music Educators Association’s 36th annual Day of Tuba and Euphonium, held at Smithtown High School East on Oct. 28.

Finn spent the day listening, learning and playing music with more than 300 tuba and euphonium players from across Long Island. While there, he attended a workshop presented by world-renowned tuba player Michael Milnarik, a professor at Tufts and Brandeis universities.

“It was very different to see so many tubas in the same place at the same time, but it was a lot of fun,” said Finn.

At the conclusion of the event, Finn joined the other student participants on stage to perform an ensemble concert, playing “Alleluja,” “Oompa-Loompa Song,” “College Daze,” “Take on Me” and the traditional finale, “Auld Lang Syne.”
