The middle school recently hosted its 10th East Islip Idol competition, sponsored by the school’s Tri-M Honor Society, with 26 student contestants singing their hearts out to a packed audience.

Eighth-grader Danielle Catanzarite was crowned the winner after singing Elle King’s ‘Ex’s & Oh’s.” The first runner up was sixth-grader Kaelyn Gordon, who sang Pink’s “Glitter in the Air”; second runner was sixth-grader Kiera Brya, who sang Anna Kendrick’s “Cups”; and third runner was sixth-grader Jack Rice, who sang Twenty One Pilots’ “Stressed Out.”  Last year’s winner, Madison Latronica, brought the house down, closing the show with a performance of  “Gravity” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.”

Close to 100 students auditioned for the contest, making it difficult for the producer to narrow the field down to the final 26, which also included Giovanni Danesi, Megan Donlin, Christopher Dopfel, Kristina Fiumara, Victoria Gonzalez, Hailey LaMacchia, Jeilene Law, Kate McGaugh, Victoria Miller, Noelle Naccarato, Olivia Pause, Alanna Puzo, Kaitlyn Reilly, Kaitlyn Rice, Emily Rottkamp, Gianna Russo Sanchez, Lilly Scholl, Keira Tantillo, Kieran Tohill, Joelle Tomossone and Marissa Triolo. All were treated like VIPs, including hair treatments courtesy of Cactus Hair Salon.

“This is an evening that I look forward to every year,” said Tri-M co-adviser Concetta Stevens. “To hear the talent and the cheers from their friends and family sitting in the audience, and to see the support the students give one another on the stage is such a beautiful thing. It brings the school and community together for a fun and exciting night.”
