Santa Comes to East Islip

Santa Claus came to East Islip town on the night of Dec. 2, delighting the children of the community. High school teacher Kelly Schwender and more than 60 students in her child development classes had worked for a month, preparing to host their fifth annual Evening with Santa event.

At each event location in the school, children were able to take part in a different activity, including candy cane golf, bowling, face painting and bean bag throwing, as well as enjoying cookies and drinks.  At the stroke of 7 p.m., Santa himself arrived and more than 200 youngsters lined up to sit on his lap and tell him what they hoped he would bring as presents before taking photos with their families; some even brought handwritten gift lists.

“Our high school students had a great time and enjoyed playing with the little ones and planning this very special evening,” said Guidance Director Israel Malinowitzer. “All the children were very good this year and they told Santa that they will have a glass of milk for him when he arrives.”
