Over the course of 11 action-packed rounds, 44 middle school students competed in the annual classroom Scripps National Spelling Bee on Jan. 6. Sixth-grader Nina Walsh won the event, correctly spelling the word “scrumptiously.” Seventh-graders Isabelle Irizarry-McAdam and Daniel Locke came in second and third, respectively.

The spelling bee, attended by many classmates, parents, staff members and administrators, was judged by coordinators Brian Deedy and Ann Mingione. Michelle Wagner served as the announcer.

“Our school's spelling bee winners were eager to participate and performed very well on stage,” said Mingione. “Congratulations to all of our wonderful students who participated.”
