High school athletes participating in the East Islip Ice Hockey Club teams recently displayed the fruits of their hard work, dedication and sportsmanship with outstanding performances on the state level.

The exceptional varsity team finished second overall in New York State, and was honored by Superintendent John Dolan and the Board of Education at the March 9 board meeting.

On the weekend of March 10-12, the freshman Red team participated in the CAN/AM 2017 Challenge Cup Tournament at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, competing at both the 1980s Herb Brooks Arena as well as the 1932 Olympic Rink. The team dominated the tournament with a 5-0-0 record to take home the gold medal.

“It was the hard work and dedication of each player that ultimately lead to their success as a team,” said Coach Rod Parisi. “I couldn’t be more proud of these boys.”

“It is amazing what a fantastic job all of these coaches do to stretch these players and bring them out of their comfort zones to highlight their abilities, which displays itself both on and off the ice,” said Joe Mayer, general manager of the East Islip Hockey Club.  “It is truly teamwork that creates champions.”
