In a Feb. 21 second-round Suffolk County AA playoff matchup, East Islip’s fourth-seeded varsity boys fell 55-48 to Central Islip, bringing a successful season to a close. In his final high school game, East Islip standout Evan Maxwell led the team with 26 points.
Coach Robert Schwender reflected positively on the team’s 2011-2012 season, saying “We started with a promising group of players, led by seniors Evan Maxwell, Brian Johnson, Steven Frost and Brian Bennett. The team was challenged immediately by playing returning Suffolk County champs Half Hollow Hills West in our annual holiday tournament. My players enjoyed the opportunity to experience a trip to Disney World to compete in the KSA holiday tournament, losing in the final to a team from Pennsylvania.”
The Redmen finished the year 11-1 in league play, with a 35-3 record over the past three years. “The accomplishment of our boys should make everyone proud,” concluded Schwender.
