This morning, the high school's head custodian detected a faint odor of gas in the basement of East Islip High School. As a precautionary measure, the school was evacuated and National Grid personnel were called to the building to evaluate the situation. National Grid identified a malfunctioning valve, all necessary repairs were made and the building has been deemed safe.

The security of our students and staff is our top priority, and school was dismissed for the remainder of the day, but will resume tomorrow as scheduled.

Sincerely,
Superintendent John V. Dolan
