The boys track team had a great showing at the annual Coaches Meet Invitational on April 21, held at Commack High School. “The team performed at the top of their game against 34 other schools from all over Long Island,” said coach James Connell. Notable performances included junior Shane Martensen running a 10:13.17 in the 3200-meter, senior Brandon Vuolo placing sixth in both the shot put and discus, senior David Nappi tying his own personal best of 12 feet in the pole vault (placing fourth), senior Nicholas Croce taking fourth place in high jump and beating his personal best jump, freshman Alex Russo coming in fifth in the freshman/sophomore long jump and fellow freshman Zach Acocella winning the freshman/sophomore long jump (Acocella also came in fifth in the freshman/sophomore 400-meter run).

East Islip’s girls lacrosse team defeated Floyd 10-5 on April 20, led by Carlee Ancona’s 3 goals, 2 assists, 6 ground balls and 4 draw controls. Other EI scorers were: Shannon Cummings (2 goals, 2 assists), Jackie Niciforo (2 goals), Victoria Gregson (1 goal, 1 assist), Lisa Olen (1 goal), Jackie Clyne (1 goal) and Nicole Levy (2 assists). Krista Ancona made 5 saves in goal for East Islip.


East Islip blanked North Babylon on April 20. Lindsey Zenk went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and Alexa Martone was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored in the 11-0 victory. Courtney Blake was the winning pitcher for EI.

East Islip defeated Smithtown West on April 20, led by Ken Rotunno’s batting (2-for-3 with 5 RBI).  Nick Osburn also had a dominating game, going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and 4 runs. Dave Palmer was the winning pitcher.
The baseball team beat Longwood 7-2 the following day, with winning pitcher Brian Bennett going 2-for-3 and pitching a complete game. The April 21 non-league victory also featured Palmer going 2-for-2 with 1 run scored.

The EI girls golf team fell to Bayport-Blue Point on April 20, losing 7-2.
