East Islip’s boys track and field team performed at the top of their game at the annual Bob Pratt Invitational, held on April 28 at Smithtown West High School. EI took sixth place overall out of 20 teams and scored a total of 34 points. “This was the best East Islip has ever one at this meet,” said coach James Connell. Several standout performers helped lead the pack including senior Jerel Williams, who placed first in the open 400-meter run with a time of 51.38. Junior Shane Martensen ran the 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter and achieved his season-best mile time of 4:49.7, junior Andrew Sharkey placed fourth overall in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and senior David Nappi came in fourth overall in the pole vault with a new personal-best jump of 12-6. Freshman sensation Zach Acocella placed fourth overall in the triple jump with a personal-best jump of 42-10.25 and fifth overall in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.7. “Zach is now No. 3 all-time on the East Islip track Hall of Fame records for the triple jump,” added Connell. “He has a great career ahead of him.”

East Islip’s softball team won another huge victory on April 27, demolishing Copiague 14-1 in a League III/IV crossover game. Heather Zenk was the winning pitcher for EI. Kristina Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with 3 runs and 3 RBI, and Kailani Acosta went 2-for-3 with 3 runs. Zenk  and
Kelsey Fileccia both homered.

The varsity baseball team won twice this past weekend, beating Whitman 8-4 on April 27 and shutting out Sachem East 7-0 the following day in a non-league game. In the Whitman game, John Dondero went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, and Pete Hanabergh went 2-for-4 with a triple and 1 RBI. Dave Palmer was the winning pitcher.
At Sachem East on April 28, EI pitcher Brian Bennett threw a complete game 4-hit shutout with 2 strikeouts. Hanabergh went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and Paul Dondero went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 1 run.

East Islip came up short against West Babylon on April 27, losing 7-5. EI scorers were Carlee Ancona (4 goals), Nicole Levy (2 goals), Victoria Gregson (1 goal, 2 assists), Jackie Niciforo (1 goal, 1 assist), Lisa Olen (1 goal), Mackenzie Houghton (1 goal), and Elizabeth Vetter (1 assist)
