Students in Shannon Rooney-Cordova’s self-contained K-2 classroom at Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School learned that "A" is for applesauce.
The class, currently working on an apple-related learning unit, gathered on Oct. 3 to make their own applesauce from scratch. By measuring, cooking and reviewing the class letter of the month (A), the students worked simultaneously on science, math, language arts and life skills.
“The students had a lot of fun tasting the applesauce once it was cooked,” said Rooney-Cordova. “It was a great way for them to explore their senses and reinforce our science skills and letter of the week.”
