The East Islip Chamber of Commerce honored JFK student Kylie Sambo as January’s Student of the Month at the organization's Jan. 29 meeting. Sambo was selected due to her role in the JFK Student Council, her demonstration of good citizenship and the characteristic of acceptance, and her innate ability to understand the importance of inclusivity.

“Kylie serves as a positive role model by exhibiting tremendous school spirit and leadership,” said Principal Deborah Smith. “She always has a smile for all Student Council members, and she is an integral part of the club. She is wonderfully welcoming and makes sure that all students in the council’s meetings feel comfortable and included. Kylie is a wonderful and conscientious student, she participates in class and always challenges herself to reach for excellence, and she is very cooperative and helpful in the school community.”
