Basketballers Honor Inspiring Teachers

Continuing an annual tradition, East Islip High School’s varsity boys basketball program recognized the dedication of the district’s elementary school teachers who inspired them. The Class of 2015 graduating seniors on the team paid a surprise visit to their former teachers at Connetquot, John F. Kennedy, Ruth C. Kinney and Timber Point elementary schools, presenting each them with a bouquet of flowers in their classrooms, or outdoors at field day, in the case of JFK.

“The basketball team just wanted to make sure that the elementary teachers are never forgotten,” said coach Robert Schwender. “Having the opportunity to go back to see their teachers is a very emotional event, and it’s a great moment for the teachers, too, to see the end result of their work, in the person of the graduating seniors. All of our teachers have left a lasting impact and taken part in the molding of each student-athlete who graduates from East Islip.”
