High school freshman and divisional tennis singles champion Emmanuel “JR” Vacalares has been named an All-County and All-State athlete for 2015.

At the Suffolk Division II Individual Tournament, held on May 11 at East Islip, Vacalares was seeded No. 1 in the singles draw and won all his matches en route to claiming the singles championship. In the final, he defeated third-ranked Lynus Fortaleza of North Babylon by a 6-2, 6-4 score, earning him a spot among the top 16 singles players countywide at the Suffolk County Individual Tennis Championships.

Although Vacalares lost in the semifinals to eventual county champ Chris Kuhnle and was unable to advance to the state tournament, the young athlete demonstrated he has a bright future in high school tennis.
