The boys and girls varsity cross-country teams kicked off their 2015 campaigns with a Sept. 19 road trip to Woodbury for the second annual Monroe-Woodbury Crusader Classic Cross-Country Invitational, held on the next site of the New York State Championship course.

Battling 87-degree temperatures, both boys and girls teams delivered excellent performances with strong times, and senior Will Reed came in fourth place in the boys varsity race with a time of 16:49, the fastest of any Long Island runner.

The next day, the boys team opened their 2015 season as defending league champs and continued their undefeated streak with a solid 17-39 win over rival Deer Park. Led by coach Ralph Tubello, the team’s nine seniors – also including Brian Allgeier, Troy Donnelly, Liam Doyle, Atakan Kemal, Donte Idoice, Kyle Rucky, Caleb Shulman and Alex Viruet – intend to keep their streak alive this season at events such as this weekend’s Suffolk Coaches Invitational.
