STUDENT SELECTED FOR YOUNG LEADERS CONFERENCE

Noelia Vazquez, a sixth-grade student at East Islip Middle School, recently participated in the 2010 Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, D.C. This six-day conference gave Noelia the unique opportunity to meet 250 middle school students from across the United States and be introduced to the rich tradition of leadership throughout American history, while developing her own leadership skills. Scholars chosen for the program participate in educational activities and presentations, visit relevant historical sites, examine notable U.S. leaders and figures, and study the impact of leadership throughout critical periods of American history.

Upon completion of JrNYLC, students gain a greater sense of understanding of the role of individuals in American democracy, as well as the responsibilities of being a great leader. The Congressional Youth Leadership Council is a nonpartisan, educational organization that has inspired young scholars to achieve their full leadership potential. Congratulations to Noelia for being chosen to participate in such a prestigious program.
