Eight from JFK Earn Girls Scouts Bronze Awards

  • Prior to the end of the school year, eight fifth graders at John F. Kennedy Elementary School completed their Bronze Award for Girl Scouts, making a strong impact on the local community. They were guided by Suffolk County Troop 2425 leader Nicole Amorim.

Jayne Elliott, Sonali Kamath and Antonia Rezza worked with Momentum Health Rehabilitation and Nursing to create media and game carts. Their work included mp3 players preloaded with music of the residents’ favorite genres to help ease anxiety and stress of living away from home.

Samantha Amorim, Madeline Kohles, Julia Maltagliati-Ford, Grace Maher and Hadley Maher worked with Good Samaritan Hospital to help beautify the gardens of their pediatric ward. The students planted flowers and created a chalkboard and games to be used by the pediatric patients during their stays at the hospital.

The eight students will start sixth grade at East Islip Middle School in September.
