The East Islip School District utilizes a plethora of instructional materials at each level to instruct students.

Below is a listing of some of these materials.


Our Elementary Classrooms

Grades K, 1 and 2

ELA:  A Balanced Literacy approach is utilized to instruct students at their own level to build their literacy skills.

Core Program: Good Habits Great Readers (Pearson) Leveled books in each building’s bookroom support individual student instruction.

Mathematics: We are utilizing the New York State modules as a primary resource of instruction in our K-2 classrooms. Modules are adapted by your teachers to meet the needs of our learners. Several parent resource handbooks are available on our website under “Departments.” (Under the “Departments” tab, please click on “Math and Science” and the handbooks could be found under “Math.”)

Grades 3, 4 and 5

ELA: Our core program has been Treasures (McGraw-Hill) for the past several years. In order to assure instruction is aligned with New York State Learning Standards, New York State modules have been adapted on each grade level for use in our classrooms. Treasures and various other resources are used to best meet the instructional needs of our students as well.

Leveled books in each of our building’s bookrooms support individual student instruction.

Our Secondary Classrooms

Middle School

ELA and Math: New York State ELA Modules are used as well as an abundance of support materials. Our teachers have worked collaboratively over the past year to adapt the modules based on their expertise in order to best meet the instructional needs of our learners. A variety of other resource materials are utilized to support instruction in Grades 6, 7 and 8.

High School

ELA and Math: New York State ELA Modules are used as well as an abundance of support materials. Our teachers have worked collaboratively over the past year to adapt the modules based on their expertise in order to best meet the instructional needs of our learners.

A variety of other resource materials are utilized to support instruction in Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12.
