The East Islip School District honored student achievements and celebrated a time capsule reopening at the district’s April 22 Board of Education meeting.

The evening began with recognition of science fair winners from John F. Kennedy Elementary School (Kira Galea, for her project “AI Creation vs. Human Creation”) and Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School (Myles Savage, for his project “Do More Pulleys Pull More”).

Next, STEAM Tank winners from JFK (Arya Brabazon, Charlotte Cirne and Magaly Salazar for their product “Book Pac”) and RCK (Arianna Bayram, Aubrey Fox and Avery Jansen for their product “Interactive Eats”).

East Islip Middle School Principal Anthony Montemarano and Assistant Principal Nicholas Spiegel presented artifacts found in a “time capsule” created at the opening of what was then East Islip Junior High School in 1961, later reopened and added to in 1986 at the school’s 25th anniversary. The school’s Class of 2025 is now collecting similar artifacts from the present to be added to the time capsule for reburying, including student work and schedules.

Lastly, the Board recognized the high school’s Mock Trial 2025 Suffolk County champion team – Emily Bucci, Kaylee Carberry, Michael Collina, Paige Damian, Eva Daugherty, Delaney DeMasi, Anna Fantauzzi, Madison Greene, Sachin Kamath, Erin McLoughlin, Ava Micheli, Catherine Sause, Olivia Stepanenko and Aiden Ulceus – presented by coach Patsy Lester and attorney Brian Mitchell.
