East Islip High School’s exceptional robotics and theater programs were recognized at the East Islip School District’s March 13 Board of Education meeting.

The school’s talented theater students provided a memorable opening to the meeting with a bravura sample performance from their upcoming March 20-22 musical production of “Big Fish,” featuring many of the show’s leading and featured actors.

Next up was a detailed presentation from technology teacher and Robotics Club adviser James Connell and two key members of the school’s robotics team, Co-Presidents Jackson Carucci and Jack Gravano. Topics included the team’s recent successful competition, and its participation in the district’s annual STEAM Day.

“Over the past few years, my experience with robotics has been truly amazing,” Carucci said. “Being elected as co-president with the Robotics Club not only honed my leadership abilities, but also taught me team-building. Similarly, participation in STEAM Day events over the past four years allowed us to share our program with younger children, helping them to explore their interests in STEM fields and learn about future classes. Through the robotics program, I’ve met with like-minded individuals who have now become some of my best friends, opening doors to new opportunities and experiences in the sphere of robotics.”
