Stephen Ruland was reelected as president of the East Islip Board of Education for the 2026-2027 school year during the annual reorganization meeting on July 7.
Ruland was first elected to the board as a trustee in 2021, and served as vice president for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
Michael Dorgan, who previously served as president in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, was elected as vice president.
A new ex officio student board member was welcomed at the meeting, East Islip High School sophomore Anna Humann. This non-voting, uncompensated position, mandated by New York State law, allows high school students to serve on a school board in an advisory capacity and make student voices heard.
“We are looking forward to your valuable insight on student perspectives, and we appreciate you taking on this role and your willingness to be a student voice,” Superintendent Paul Manzo told Humann.
During the meeting, Ruland, Dorgan, Humann and reelected trustees Jessica Ciampi and Christopher Zachry were all sworn in by acting district clerk Pamela Rosand.
Additionally, Manzo announced that Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Administration Dr. Aileen M. O'Rourke had been named deputy superintendent.
