Olivia Zhang, a graduate of East Islip High School’s Class of 2021 and currently a senior at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, was recently recognized by the USNA for her numerous accomplishments as a Midshipman 1/C, or “firstie.” Zhang, who is majoring in nuclear engineering and minoring in Chinese, serves as editor-in-chief and president of “The Lucky Bag,” the USNA’s 850-page annual yearbook, leading a team of over 70 photographers and editors. In addition to her editorial role, Zhang also works as a frequent photographer for the USNA Public Affairs team, runs the official Instagram page for Navy Women’s Tennis and is a member of the Navy Racing capstone. After commissioning in May 2025, Zhang plans to join the surface nuclear community.
