Connetquot Elementary School students in Melinda Dunn, Debbie Graham and Melissa Love’s second grade classes recently created their own animal habitat dioramas to complement both the novel “The Year of Billy Miller” and their informational writing unit on animals. Inspired by a scene in the book in which Billy builds a bat habitat diorama, each student designed a shoebox habitat at home featuring the animal they had researched and written about.
Students proudly shared their informational writing and creative dioramas first with their classmates and then with first graders during a special presentation in the cafeteria.
“Our second graders loved sharing their amazing work,” Love said.
