Students in Melissa Love’s second grade class at Connetquot Elementary School created their very own dioramas as a culmination to their informational writing unit, and to go along with the novel they read, “The Year of Billy Miller.” In the novel, Billy makes a diorama of a bat habitat. Each student in Love’s class used an animal that they chose for their informational writing project to create a habitat for that animal in a shoebox at home. Students then shared their writing pieces and dioramas, first with their own class, and then with first-grade and kindergarten classes. 

“The kindergarteners loved learning, and the second graders loved teaching,” Love said
