East Islip HS Students Transform WFTK Studios with Stunning New Backdrop

East Islip High School’s National Art Honor Society and broadcast program recently joined forces to create an impressive new studio background for WFTK Studios, a project that showcases the power of interdisciplinary collaboration and student creativity. Working together, these two student-led organizations – with some assistance from The school’s Art Club – designed and executed a clean, professional backdrop that elevates the visual quality of the school’s video productions. 

The new WFTK Studios background reflects both the artistic vision of East Islip’s visual artists and the technical expertise of the broadcast team, resulting in a polished look that opens the door to exciting possibilities. Students will now have access to a professional-quality background that will enhance everything from news broadcasts and event coverage to creative student films and promotional videos.  

“Seeing the National Art Honor Society, Art Club and our broadcast program come together on this project has been truly inspiring,” broadcast teacher Bill Lackner said. “When students from different creative fields collaborate like this, magic happens. Our students didn’t just create a beautiful new background – they learned the value of teamwork, communication and how different skill sets can combine to produce something truly professional. This backdrop will be used for years to come, and every time our students step in front of it, they will remember the power of working across disciplines. That’s a lesson that extends far beyond the studio.”

“This project was such a fun collaboration for the National Art Honor Society, and we are excited to see the mural we painted being used in WFTK Studios,” art teacher Heather Toomey said. “The art department always loves collaborating with the technology department; we make a great team.”
