East Islip High School’s talented theater students stunned audiences in March with their vivacious acting, singing and tap-dancing performances in this year’s spring musical, Cole Porter’s 1934 classic “Anything Goes.” Set on a ship bound from New York to London, the madcap production showcases jazz standards such as “You’re the Top,” “All Through the Night” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”
Bethany Affelt served as the musical’s director, with junior Sienna Graber and sophomore Peyton Zusmer as student assistants. The dedicated cast included Kerry-Ann Montout as Reno Sweeney, Ethan Jensen as Billy Crocker, Paige Mathers as Hope Harcourt, Josue Murillo as Moonface Martin, Anderson Ross as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, Lauren Winiarski as Erma Latour, Kylen Curry as Elisha Whitney, Eva Joan Daugherty as Mrs. Evangeline Harcourt, Gavin Timmers as the Captain and Wyatt Casdia as the Purser.
“The high school’s music teachers are incredibly proud of all of the students who were involved in this year’s spring musical,” Affelt said. “The students in the cast were highly entertaining, having showcased their comedic timing, singing and dancing skills, while the pit musicians brought out the best of Cole Porter’s jazzy score. The stage crew's two-story set of a magnificent ocean liner wowed the audience, and many audience members also appreciated the behind-the-scenes time-lapse video of the set being constructed, shown in the school lobby. All in all, this was a wonderful venture into a Broadway classic, and we are so happy that the East Islip community was able to experience it.”
