The East Islip School Business Partnership recently hosted its annual STEAM Night and STEAM Day in the East Islip High School gymnasium, offering students hands-on opportunities to explore future careers in science, technology, engineering, art and math.
STEAM Night, held on March 11, welcomed students and community members from across the district, while STEAM Day on March 12 brought second, fourth and eighth graders from East Islip Middle School, Connetquot Elementary School, Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School, John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Timber Point Elementary School to experience the interactive exhibits. Organized by East Islip School Business Partnership Coordinator Bridget Lopiccolo, the events featured engaging demonstrations and activities highlighting the district’s STEAM-related classes, clubs and career pathways.
High school students volunteered from a variety of programs, helping guide younger learners through activities, while professionals from across Long Island – including representatives from Allstate, Haugland Group and Stony Brook Medicine – shared insights into their fields and connected with students.
“Connecting with our community and future healthcare leaders is always inspiring,” said Lynne Alba, talent acquisition director at Stony Brook Medicine. “Opportunities like East Islip’s STEAM event allow us to showcase the many possibilities within a career in healthcare.”
Allstate owner Stephen Foray, a member of the School Business Partnership, emphasized the event’s impact across all grade levels. “This year’s STEAM event was an incredible experience, both as a business partner and as a parent of a student at the high school,” he said. “I saw firsthand the excitement, curiosity and collaboration among students, staff and the community. Events like this are so valuable because they introduce students – from kindergarten through high school – to real-world careers and help strengthen the connection between schools and local businesses.”
With growing participation each year, the district’s STEAM events continue to build connections and inspire the next generation of innovators.
