East Islip’s Flaming Hot Legos robotics team – consisting of Acelyn Garcia and Avery Garcia of John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Sonali Kamath from East Islip Middle School – delivered an outstanding performance this month at the FIRST Long Island Lego League’s Regional Championship Tournament at Hicksville High School. Competing against the top 30 teams out of 140 that began the season, the team showcased its robot, Innovation project and gracious professionalism with impressive success. The Flaming Hot Legos rose to the challenge through multiple robot performance rounds and a 30-minute presentation before a panel of judges. Their hard work and dedication earned them a fourth-place overall finish on Long Island, along with third place in Robot Performance, second place in Robot Design and an invitation to compete at a national tournament.
