East Islip High School’s girls flag football team closed out their inaugural season in style on May 10, defeating Wyandanch 33-13 on Senior Day. The game was not only a strong finish to the season but also a celebration of the seniors who helped shape the foundation of the program in its very first year. With the win, East Islip wrapped up the season with an impressive 11-5 record, a remarkable achievement for a brand new team.

From the opening whistle, EI came out with energy and focus, showcasing the growth and teamwork that defined their season. The offense moved the ball efficiently, while the defense held strong and created key turnovers to keep Wyandanch at bay. The seniors led the charge, playing with heart and leaving it all on the field in front of their home crowd. Quarterback Lauren Glynn had a memorable day, completing 6 of 13 passes for 57 yards, scoring three touchdowns including a 38-yard interception return, and earning 70 running yards and 20 punt return yards. Sarah Alexander, Sophia Aurrecoechea, and Adrianna Belsito each scored TDs; Kayla Stegner had two interceptions, with Alexander, Emily Mooney and Sam Penny all notched one; Belsito had four flag pulls; and Graciela Czachor, Bianca Maitre and Mooney all registered sacks.

“It was a day full of emotion, pride, and celebration, not just for the win, but for everything this team accomplished in its first year,” coach Robert Sconone said. “The bonds built, the progress made and the memories created have laid a strong foundation for the future of East Islip girls flag football.”
