The district has appointed Elizabeth Weis as the new director of innovation and instructional technology, effective Sept 1. She replaces interim director Mark Bernard and former director Richard Zwycewicz, now the district's assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.

Weis comes to East Islip from the Connetquot Central School District, where she served as director of instructional technology. She previously worked at the South Huntington School District as a humanities coach, Tutor Cats coordinator, summer learning program administrator and technology coach. She began her career as a literacy specialist at South Huntington and St. Edward the Confessor School.

A resident of Huntington Station, Weis earned a bachelor’s degree in child study and speech communication from St. Joseph’s University, a master’s degree in literacy K-12 from Dowling College and advanced graduate certificates in educational technology and leadership from Stony Brook University.

“I am honored to join the East Islip School District and look forward to partnering with students, staff, families and the community,” Weis said. “My goal is to build upon the district’s strong foundation by continuing to promote innovative thinking while ensuring that technology is used with purpose, to strengthen instruction, deepen student learning and support the outstanding work of our educators.”
