Across the East Islip School District, second- and fifth-grade students moving up to a new school enjoyed fantastic field trips to the buildings they will attend come September.

Fifth-grade classes from John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School visited East Islip Middle School on May 30 to learn what to expect next year. They were welcomed by school administrators who gave a brief introduction and shared important information. The middle schoolers then led small group tours, showing the visitors the classrooms, cafeteria and other key areas. After the tour, the fifth graders participated in a Q&A session where they asked questions about lockers, homework, and clubs.

“Students left feeling more confident and excited about the transition to middle school,” Principal Anthony Montemarano said.

Meanwhile, second graders from Timber Point Elementary School went on their annual field trip to visit their soon-to-be new home at JFK on June 9, and Connetquot Elementary School second graders visited RCK on June 2 and JFK on June 9. At JFK, the younger students visited the library, where they were greeted by older students happy to welcome them to the building. They also walked through the gym and cafeteria, watched orchestra and band members playing their instruments during lessons, met talented artists who were creating art projects, and heard wonderful singing in the music room.

“It was wonderful to have the second graders from Timber Point and Connetquot visit JFK,” Principal Dr. Deborah Smith said. “The children were excited and enthusiastic to see the school they will be attending in September as third graders, and it was great to meet our new friends.”

“Dr. Smith welcomed them with open arms, providing a tour of the building,” Timber Point Principal Danielle Naccarato said. “When they returned to TP, they had huge smiles and were chatting with excitement about the adventure that lies ahead of them. A huge thank you to the Timber Point PTA for providing special ‘On Our Way" shirts that the students wore on the field trip, and to Dr. Smith for being such a gracious hostess.”
