It was a night of holiday cheer and student recognition on Dec. 4 as the East Islip School District held its December Board of Education meeting, kicking off with a special preview performance of East Islip High School’s traditional winter play, “A Christmas Carol.”

Next, the winners of this year’s Red Ribbon Contest – fifth graders Sophia Ayala from Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School and Antonia Umana Plazas from John F. Kennedy Elementary School – were announced by the high school’s SADD club. After SADD members visited all fifth grade classes in both schools during Red Ribbon Week, they had invited students to design a ribbon featuring an anti-drug slogan.

In addition, Director of Careers and Student Services Dr. Jason Stanton gave a presentation titled “Comprehensive School Counseling Plan: Supporting Student Development Across Grade Levels.”
