Jacob Coyle, a student at East Islip’s John F. Kennedy Elementary School, was recently selected as the winner of the Haugland Group’s “Name the Drone” contest, for his entry “EI in the Sky.” The Haugland Group had participated as table facilitators at the Islip School Business Partnership’s annual STEAM Night event in March, demonstrating how drones are used to help develop land and build environmental resources.
Company representatives visited the school on May 5 to present Coyle with his prize of a gift card and Haugland gear.
“The Haugland Group loved Jacob’s name and thought it was very appropriate, because the chief operating officer and chief executive officer of the company, Joseph and William Haugland, are both East Islip School District graduates,” East Islip School Business Partnership Coordinator Bridget Lopiccolo said. “We will be watching the EI in the Sky drone as it assists the Haugland Group with their development projects.
