Ten East Islip High School students – Sydney Berni, Jamie Fehn, Alex Huss, Abigail LaMorte, Tiffany Le, Kayla Lopez, Grace Micali, Kat Sawtelle, Peyton Scholl and Dara Sorto Castro – from the National Art Honor Society recently designed and painted a new mural for the school’s Athletic Trainers Room, transforming the space with artwork that proudly celebrates the district’s athletic programs. The mural was designed by senior Grace Micali and completed under the direction of art teachers Dan Figliozzi and Heather Toomey. The mural was completed over two days by two dedicated groups of student artists.  

“These National Art Honor Society members created a beautiful mural in such a short period of time that truly embodies the spirit of the many athletic programs East Islip offers,” Toomey said. “Both groups played an integral role in creating a piece of artwork that will be appreciated for years to come.”

“Grace worked hard to design an awesome mural for the Athletic Trainers Room,” Figliozzi said. “We had a great time painting it together, and the mural really brought the space to life.”

“I really enjoyed working with everyone to create something that represents all of our sports and makes the space more fun,” Micali said.

Athletic Director Stephen Restivo also expressed appreciation for the project.

“Now, when students enter the space, they are greeted not by a blank wall, but by an impressive piece of artwork created by their peers,” Restivo said. “I truly appreciate all that they have done for the athletic department.”
