NYPD Jazz Band Visits Connetquot Elementary

To kick off Music in Our Schools Month, students and staff at East Islip’s Connetquot Elementary School recently welcomed the NYPD Jazz Band, invited by music teacher Christina Sangeniti for a special morning of music and learning. Made up entirely of active-duty police officers who are also talented musicians, the ensemble introduced students to a wide variety of instruments and musical styles, from jazz to upbeat swing and even pop. As the performance unfolded, students were encouraged to join in with clapping, singing and even dancing along with the musicians. Laughter and excitement spread throughout the room as the music brought everyone together in a shared experience.

“I am so thankful that my students were able to experience such an event,” Sangeniti said. “It was a great morning, filled with music, learning and excitement, that my students will surely remember. A big thank you to the officers/musicians in the NYPD Jazz Band. It’s incredible to see active-duty officers share their musical talents and inspire our students in such a meaningful way.”
