For the fifth consecutive year, the East Islip School District was recognized by the NAMM Foundation as a recipient of the Best Communities for Music Education Award. This prestigious award, now in its 27th year, continues to honor school districts across the nation for their leadership in advancing music education and expanding equitable access for all students.
“Music education is important to have in schools because it boosts creativity, enhances skills and provides students with an outlet for self-expression,” East Islip High School Tri-M Music Honor Society Co-President Sophia Chillemi said.
“The music education at East Islip has helped me explore new sides of music that I previously didn’t even know existed,” said Ethan Jensen, the school’s other Tri-M Music Honor Society co-president. “It allowed me to discover my true passion through its welcoming and encouraging staff and students.”
“The East Islip Music Department is incredibly proud to be recognized as a program of excellence,” Director of Art and Music Dr. Caitlin Hale said. “It is a testament to the talent of our students, the commitment of our incredible teachers and the unwavering support of families and the district. Participation in school music not only empowers students to find their creative voice, but instills a collaborative mindset where all work together for the benefit of the ensemble. We are proud to provide a high quality music education in East Islip and look forward to continued success.”
