Ruth C. Kinney Elementary School fifth graders Camilo Hernandez and Anayah Shivraj attended the annual Long Island Flute Club Flute Festival on Nov. 15 alongside RCK Band Director Savannah Legg. The event, held at Patchogue-Medford High School, gave the students an opportunity to participate in masterclasses, learn flute choir music and hear a performance by the Long Island Flute Club’s professional flute choir.

Throughout the day, the students also explored a variety of flutes, including the contrabass flute, the largest in the flute family.  – while rehearsing with. At the end of the festival, they performed three pieces in a combined concert with fellow student flutists and Legg. 

Another East Islip music student, East Islip Middle School sixth grader Stella Ribando, also attended the event.  

“This was a wonderful experience for our young musicians,” Legg said.
